Good Time
The Safdie brothers craft an unrelenting, anxiety-fueled odyssey through the Queens night as Connie Nikas (a career-best Robert Pattinson) scrambles to bail his cognitively disabled brother out of Rikers Island. Driven by Oneohtrix Point Never’s pulsating synthesizer score and Sean Price Williams’ grainy 35mm photography, the film refuses to let the viewer catch their breath. Connie is a manipulative chameleon whose frantic improvisations only dig him into deeper, dirtier holes. It functions as an ideal companion piece for anyone drawn to Alpha Dog, sharing that same suffocating sense of ticking-clock momentum where every reckless gamble compounds an impending, unavoidable catastrophe.
