Bad Boys
Michael Bay announced his signature visual mania with this hyper-saturated Miami crime sprint. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence exude electric improvisational chemistry as two narcotics detectives swapping identities while hunting down stolen precinct heroin. Bay loads the frame with spinning low-angle tracking shots, roaring Porsche turbo engines, and gleaming industrial sets bathed in amber light. It is loud, unapologetically vulgar, and completely confident in its star wattage. Because producer Jerry Bruckheimer carried over the high-octane formula from Beverly Hills Cop II, the film feels like Foley’s spiritual heir, swapping Southern California palm trees for South Beach neon while doubling down on designer shootouts and relentless wisecracks.
