Annabelle: Creation
David F. Sandberg pulls off a rare Hollywood miracle here: taking an uninspired spin-off and constructing a terrifying, tactile haunted-house mystery out of sheer craft. Set in a dust-swept farmhouse, the film tracks a group of orphaned girls terrorized by a malevolent entity trapped inside a porcelain doll. Sandberg weaponizes shadow and architectural depth, using practical lighting and sound design to let the dark corners of the house breathe before detonating his scares. Lulu Wilson and Talitha Bateman anchor the panic with raw vulnerability. Much like Ouija: Origin of Evil, this film works as a superior period-piece prequel that outperforms its predecessor by prioritizing domestic tragedy, religious dread, and the tragic corruption of an innocent child.
