The Guilty
Antoine Fuqua traps Jake Gyllenhaal inside a fluorescent-lit LAPD call center, letting audio cues and frantic voice acting build an unbearable pressure cooker. Gyllenhaal plays Joe Baylor, a demoted patrol officer whose escalating temper clashes with a desperate distress call from a kidnapped woman traveling along a dark freeway. The film lives and breathes through claustrophobic close-ups and sound design, making static, breathy whispers, and distant sirens feel viscerally tactile. If you appreciate the headset-bound desperation and procedural race against time found in The Call, this minimalist exercise in tension will grip you instantly.
