Transformers: The Last Knight
Sitting firmly at the bottom of the heap, The Last Knight collapses under the weight of its own incomprehensible myth-making. Bay fractures the narrative across Arthurian legends, WWII flashbacks, and Anthony Hopkins reciting exposition between bouts of manic fury. The film's cardinal technical sin is its wildly erratic aspect ratio switching—jumping between three different formats within a single conversation—which obliterates visual coherence. While the rendering of Cybertron crashing into Earth exhibits raw digital muscle, the action feels disconnected from emotional stakes. Mark Wahlberg’s weary quips cannot anchor the cacophony. It marks the precise threshold where Bay’s stylistic bravura ceased serving a story and simply dismantled cinematic syntax entirely.
